Massages - Vickie will do an in-depth consultaion with you to
determine the best course of treatment.
There are many types of massage available and most fall into the following
categories:
Deep Tissue
Involves slow-moving deeper strokes which can
help to unlock chronically tight muscles anywhere in the body. Some names you may hear
are Connective Tissue Therapy (CTT), Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT), and/or Trigger Point Therapy (TPT).
Energy Work
Accesses the body's electrical system and helps to enhance the flow of vital energy
throughout your body. Although the hands of the practitioner are often quite still when providing
this type of work, results can be amazing and deeply relaxing. Some names
you may hear are Acupressure, Polarity Reflexology, Reiki, and Shiatsu.
Swedish Massage
Noted for its flowing strokes, is designed to promote and enhance circulation of the blood and lymph,
relieve muscle aches, resulting in relaxation and a general sense of well-being.
Sports Massage
Generally used with athletes prior to and/or following a training or competition event to assist
the body in removing toxins. This can help keep toxins from lodging in the muscle
tissue where they may do damage. The strokes are quicker and of shorter duration than
other massage modalities. The practitioner does not want to abruptly slow the body down
as this may cause more harm than good.
Movement Therapies
This type of bodywork involves some type of movement and/or stretching. Excellent for increasing
or maintaining joint mobility particularly in the elderly or people recovering from some type of
injury or surgery. Some names you may hear are Trager, Kinesthetic Awareness through Movement
(KAM), Zero Balancing (ZB), Aston Patterning, or Pilates.
